Medal of Honor

The Medal of Honor is the highest military decoration awarded by the United States government. It is presented to members of the U.S. Armed Forces who distinguish themselves by acts of extraordinary bravery and self-sacrifice at the risk of their own lives, above and beyond the call of duty, during combat against an enemy. Established during the Civil War in 1861, it is awarded by the President in the name of Congress.
