The Lockheed Martin F-22A "Raptor" is an advanced, 5th-generation offensive counter-air fighter that was developed during the 1980s to replace the McDonnell Douglas F-15 Eagle while the Soviet MiG-29 and Su-27 entered service. The F-22A’s APG-77(v)1 takes existing technology from the F-35’s APG-81 while adding Air-Ground capability. One of its main advantages comes from the Pratt and Whitney F119 engines that allow it to fly around 10k feet higher than average fighters and supercruise at unmatched speeds. The F-22A Block 20 trainers are planned to be retired in 2024, with the Blocks 30-40s will retire ~ 2030. While the Raptor is an incredible fighter, it suffers from limited datalink transmission capability, the lack of a helmet-mounted display system, and the lack of infrared detection systems. These flaws hamper its capabilities in engaging current Very Low Observable threats and future ones. (by macmacmacmoc2)
