Roman Hamata Chainmail Waist

Hamata was a type of Roman chainmail armor made from interlocking metal rings, typically iron or steel, woven in a 4-in-1 pattern. It offered flexibility and mobility, covering the torso and sometimes extending to the shoulders. Worn over a tunic, it protected against cutting and stabbing but was less effective against crushing blows. Used primarily from the late Roman Republic to the early Empire, hamata was valued for its durability and ease of repair.
