In the First World War, both the Entente and the Central Powers utilized homemade blunt or bladed weapons for the purpose of raiding enemy trenches. This is a more well-constructed example, utilizing rows of nails to deliver more of a punch -- but it was common to affix any metal weight that could be found to the end of a club -- including empty grenade cases!
