This is a Mark 1 trench knife, used in both World Wars by United States forces. The knuckleduster on the grip is not actually intended for use in combat -- it's to keep the fingers locked on the weapon and to prevent enemies from grabbing it. The spike at the bottom, though, is a specialized "skull-crusher," similar to an ancient Greek sauroter, used for... well, you can probably tell by the name.
